Expected crunchiness on yesterday's sunny aspects was worse than expected. Powder Bowl's north-facing aspect was disappointingly firm and followed by big immovable bumps on Bear Pits. We worked our way north via another disappointment of Exterminator, and then finally found goodness on Northway. Paradise Chutes, Flyin' Floyd's, Nose Trees, "Sphincterville", and Chairline Bumps got things rolling. Employee Housing was the best snow of the day and required many round trips. I-5 is fast, and most of the worst whoops now have smooth bypasses. The crowd didn't arrive till noon, and lines were minimal to none. Looks like a big party crowd on hand tonight. Wednesday's big jump in the freezing level will likely ruin the mix thursday and on till we get new snow.

My view….Pretty nice day all in all, grey start with high clouds, felt cold, very light early crowd, great groomers making the carving crowd happy, as expected some south facing slopes got firmed up and even some of the north facing slopes were a little firmer. But had lots of fun on HC – dropping in just before the southback gate, heard that Rabbit Ears skied nicely. Most fun PB and BP’s – many repeats (I like those firm bumps – I’m in Heaven and I got the skis that like it). Sunnyside was still nice, just off sun angle enough to hold up. Checked the soup early – Leak(y) Potato (how is that P word spelled ), checked back during the late lunch rush – OUCH! – packed lodge, big lines waiting for food, Mr Kircher cooking burgers! What? (maybe I’ll post a pic later). Anyway back out to more fun, some almost sun and blue skies mid day – made PB even better, fall line fast and smooth just skier right off the top!. Only real lift line I bumped into was on FQex and since I was running single no big deal. No lines all day on REX or HC. Lots of nasty rocks on top of HC – especially if your heading south, not so bad getting to PB. Other interesting thing today was the Marriage Proposal to Gwen written in Green spray paint towards the top of CHex. Well Gwen what was the answer? Pay lot did not fully fill up today (and it was a bad parking job also), rest of A B C D and E all full with a few cars down in F again. Finished a early day with a lazy lonely run down Exterminator Gondy line. Lookin forward to a casual first day of 2013 tomorrow with #1 – might even actually eat some soup! Happy New Year to all!

Skiing with my son Stewart today.
A couple of warm up laps in the resort and then we headed out South and skied in the Deep South.
Nice snow, great fall line. Wasn't as sun affected as I thought it might be.
Skin back to the resort then 3way Exit Chute to FFF to Mt Boondoggle.
Couple of coffees and more powdery goodness in the sidecountry.
Despite yesterdays beating I was considering a 410 finale but Stewart had to rush home for a date with his gf. Maybe tomorrow.
What a season so far...I've skied mainly powder runs every day.
