Alpental for Xmas - crust? was created by dave095790
I noticed Snoqualmie Pass was up to at least 38 degrees and was wondering if anyone could comment on whether or not there is a thaw-freeze crust or if one will develop that would make the skiing on Christmas not so enjoyable.

Thanks

Dave

A report from the other end of the Pass...
12/25/12 – Merry Christmas at the Fir indeed. Thanks Lifties! Chilly at 28 degrees and pretty much blowing snow all day. Started out on the firm stuff with only a trace new that rewarded hunting out tiny wind loaded pockets and pillows. Snow dropped a new 2-3 inches on the lot and it was coming down thicker and thicker as the morning went on. Pretty empty out there, so turns could be had basically anywhere you wanted down all of the routes.

No crust was evident when I got there at 10am. Great powder all day.

Lots of new snow and wind. Saw a 1 foot crown to left of debbie's gold, by those ice climbing cliffs...I think they call it chicken shot...or something...you have to hike to it. Also had little slab chunks break off just above the cascade traverse. They closed chair 2 around 1:30. It looked like they were going to drop some bombs into edelweiss using that cable from the lift shack. Only international was open before that (edelweiss bowl runs all closed).

No crust experienced.
