Interesting day, some good, some bad…Bad – sitting at the bottom of the Blvd for 45+ minutes for Crystal to de-ice the road up top where it flattens out (gave me time to read the paper, guess that’s good). Some of the good – screamer fast good groomers early, some sun heat softening of IceFerkBerg and Upper GV Bowl skier left side, plus skiable conditions on Grubstake. The bad was that the fog crept in onto the frontside of REX to early, slowed the melt, made the vis pretty marginal at times (water on goggles and later some freezing ice) The good – getting to test the AfterShocks on what many would call marginal conditions – OUCH! Carved nice, beat through the ice crust in the places I pushed them, pretty much made a lot of things fun, did I mention that they are the “New Love of My Life” (sorry Coombas, you’ll get your day again). Lower mountain softened, but the vis was in an out. Same with the upper mountain, best vis was in the Valley most of the day, but it went through some bad times after noon. Was improving around 1:30, but it seemed in and out even then. Temps felt like they were dropping. Crowd was very light. Got a few solo bucket rides. Soup was Tomato Cheddar Something ( something that made it Chili like?, Sorry didn’t taste test it). Probably the best overall slope was IceFerkBerg/Middle Ferk to Deerfly (when you could see it, and it was even good when you couldn’t since it was so nice and smooth and soft). Another fun day. Hugh pay lot today – if not for that everyone would have been able to park in the A lot…definitely an overly optimistic size on a week day for the pay lot – even on a pow day.

The morning drive required an early arrival and good 4WD (Subaru) to tackle some black ice. Silly icy-groomer speed ensued while others were stuck waiting for the boulevard to be de-iced. As the sun tried to warm the ice, the fog countered and denied. (Today's soup was Pea from what I saw on my goggles, BTW.) No way to tell what was going to be good grooming from bad, but the off piste was nasty and needed hundreds of participants to break the rain crust. The Valley and Grubstake just started to improve when the incoming fog/clouds started the refreeze. Lots of vertigo-inducing fogged-out groomers. Luckily the hour of morning sun was enough to learn the smooth spots. Lowering temps will not be kind. Might be a slow recovery.
