If I don't file this TR Lisa is going to nag me until I scream. So...
Headed up to SP to take advantage of the "use your seasons pass for free.99 today". Figured it was a good way to spend the first day on the new job.
Snowing at the base when I got there. Not really heavy but wet. As the afternoon progressed it got a little wetter and I had a good layer of refreeze on my gear. But visibility was low. Clouds parted for a bit and it warmed up then the sun came for a bit. After that it started to rain/ice pellet down at the bottom of the lift and snow up higher. Clouds thickened a lot and it got really dark. Last run was in the wind, dark with ice pellets hitting my face. Despite all this, I ran like a total coward for my truck. But others were too. Left just as the rain got nasty.
Snow was okay on the groomed parts. Some dirt patches and rocks showing up and holes here and there. Nothing surprising. Off the groomed was a different story. The rain on Monday night resulted in a nice rain crust over deep wet snow. Most tracks were just straightlining through it. I gave it a couple tries then decided I'll save the fighting for a little later and just cruised up and down.
Crowds weren't too bad. Only Daisy and Brooks were open and if that rain crust wasn't there the crowds would have easily spread out.
Day 1 of the season done and it was good times. This makes the third year in a row I've started the season at SP.

No kidding. We previewed Stevens on Monday; straightlining the Double Diamond stump farm resulted in a top speed of about 15 mph . . .
