Gee what a challenging day…brain still hasn’t got used to the time change, forecast for big winds looked to be happening, hadn’t skied since last Thursday so I was going through withdrawal, wish I went yesterday, telemetry at 7am looked like things might be improving, winds out of the southeast – that’s good for REX, early morning phone report of 50mph avg looked like not the actual trend – at least not by the 7am telemetry and they made it sound like REX might be running…so, oh well might as well get going and go….checked the phone report at 8:10 when passing through Enumclaw – hhhmmm no update?, oh well. Pull into the A lot, what a disaster at 8:50, single rows, half rows, attempts at triple rows – found a space in the front free row, 4 or 5 new in the parking lot, lift status report at the base!!!!! What no REX or GV today! Dang. Not on hold, just plain big closed red – bigger ouch. Oh well suffer the situation. Skied CHex and FQex all day till I made the minimum required fun oh meter – did BP’s (till it closed around noon), K2, Frisco, various lines off CMAC, Boondoggle (nice), Lower Ferks, Deerfly, Stumpfarm (very good and getting very deep my last time through it), Chair 1 line, Chair 5 line, all getting deeper and better as the day progressed. Got lucky when a guy on the lift pointed out that I had not set my watch forward….bonus got a couple more runs and got to leave a lot earlier than I thought it was. Snow quality was great and getting better, tomorrow will be awesome everywhere that is wind protected or loaded and it will be a very big frenzy of powder hounds, Crystal will have a hard time getting the upper mountain open because of the wind loading and lack of activity today, there will be a lot of standing around waiting at the bottom of REX for very long times – please don’t go. at the bottom of REX for very long times – please don’t go.
Almost forgot – soups of the day, Cheddar “Broccoli” or was it Broccoli Cheddar? and Minestrone (very good with lots of extra Parmesan and crackers , but only two). Seems like the parking lots other than A were kinda empty.
