Was up there today (and it was very good
. Talked to patrol. They had a six hour window yesterday when they opened there would be an opening in the weather and they could bomb, but the weather did not cooperate. They'd really like to control that area to prevent anything coming down towards the lifts. They may have to try another day (with potentially another closure).

It's no secret there is a week layer in the snow between 80 and 147 cm(depending on which aspect) in the Stevens Pass area.
Ski Patrol and the avy bombers tend to do this sort of thing. ie shut down Mill Valley. Recall the "stealth opener" of So Cross last season?
I'm not surprised all things considered. We talked to a ski-patroler below Fluer-de-Lis chute on Monday about all of this.
It was sunny out and riding in-bounds was good enough for me that day. (Tracked out or not.)
I had zero desire to work the side-country that day even though I knew several people that rode Highland, Wenatchee, Fluer de lis, Tunnel Ck etc.
