With unexpected clouds blocking the sun, even 40 degree temps couldn't soften the ice on the sunny aspects. A dusting of new over coral head ice kept the Frontside nasty. Northfacers were firm to very firm but doable. Powder Bowl, OK, but walking over ice through the rocks on top was tricky. Best was Northway Chute off NW Peak. The Mid-Northway bumps are huge and hard. Morning Glory Bowl had some nice softness over the crunch and Upper Brand X got my hopes up but the ice through the rock band chute was nasty. Lower X was new over rain crunch. Valley Bowl snow was good, but Iceberg as the way back cancelled it out. Grooming is excellently smooth, icy in places, and keeping the pack in place. We need some snow. Clear and sunny friday might heat it enough to change the sunny aspects from frozen coral to fun slush; but if cloudy – stay away.
Waiting for sunday's storm.
