I was determined to finally ski the backside lift at East before the holiday schedule ended.  Last seasons spinal surgery eliminated the chance to ski after East finally opened. Then this past Saturday had the lift "down" while we were there.  The easterly winds were ripping on the drive up to the Summit but were surprisingly diminshed at the front lift.  The skies were overcast and dark clouds filled the sky. Flat light conditions with temperatures in the mid 20's.  The easterly breeze kept the snow "packed powder" conditions.  The lift started early and there was never anyone in a lift corral.  Finally skied off the backside on perfectly groomed slopes and it was really enjoyable.  The runs are short but the main trails and narrow slots through the trees provide a pleasant mix. Plus it is a wonderful area to take the grandsons.  The backside was not affected by the wind so it was a great place to carve turns on deserted slopes.  Jill's getting her ski legs back after her ACL reconstruction last season and the terrain had her beaming.   ;)
