Crystal - 05/21 Rapture day

Gotta say – no marketing hype from me today! Hoped for a day no worse than last Saturday – got some skiing on soft snow from the start, but the sucker hole conditions on the drive up rapidly went down the toilet – foggy (most foggy conditions I’ve skied this year), a little wet/snow precip during the first hour or so (where are those easy goggle wipes when you need them), biggest early morning crowd riding the bucket that I’ve seen all year (thanks to no CHex lift and lots of racer types from all over the place showing up to practice on Lucky Shot in a white out – lucky for Crystal that someone shows up). Snow is melting away, but there is not much evidence of the dirt and rocks showing yet even at the bottom. Areas off piste that you could see were pretty nice on fat skis. What was groomed (if you could see it) was pretty okay. Skied a couple of runs in the Valley when the vis opened in the bowl. Also skied IceFerkberg and M-World, a couple of Doors, Lucky Shot and Outer Ferks (first and only tracks for me and by me today). Would have been a pretty nice day if it had been anything like the last five, but Crystal must be the most unlucky ski area in the world based on limited operations and attempts to stay open for hard core lazy skiers like me…temps got cooler as the day progressed as can be seen on the avie telemetry site. Thanks to SMS and JD for the company today. A lot was pretty full today. Still hoping for a few more lazy sunny lift served days before the end of July. ddk

Yep - must have been my foggiest day this year, at least in US, and I had forgotten my goggles >

Shades were fogging up but it was kind of cool to focus on other senses. For me, the first 5-6 runs were better than the rest. Was glad I waxed last night...

On the positive side - recognized and said 'Hi' to Joedabaker
