We were planning on a light tour today but given that the forecast was calling for 4"-8" overnight at Steven's Pass we switched our plans last night to resort skiing. We woke up to find Steven's website reporting 7", hit the road a little after seven and were on the lift by 9. Oddly no one was there and thankfully the crowds were light all day!
At the base of the resort they were reporting 9" so we headed up to the backside where we found that you could feel a solar crust underneath the new at the top of the Andromeda Face (under Southern Cross Chair) and once you got further down the run you could really feel the crust and it was pretty miserable.
I was about to give up on the day but we found Pegasus Gulch a little better since you could hit the groomers lower down. Then the sun came out and we meet up with some friends and went off to Schim's Meadow and the surrounding runs and found just absolutely great conditions. No crust underneath and light snow. We lapped that all day finding stashes almost until 3pm. We did do one after run down Orion Chutes to remind us that the sun was really warming up the snow and making it pretty heavy on the backside.
All in all we had a blast. Great friends, mainly sunny skis, light snow in Schim's Meadow, no crowds, clear roads, couldn't have asked for a better day!
