rode almost exclusively inbounds on sunday 3/13 at white pass (scored some free tix!). took a buddy on his first time out on a splitter, so despite the harsh conditions we skinned up to the peak above the expansion area to scope the west ridge side country and get him some practice with transitions. high winds were transporting lots of heavy snow onto north aspects. cracking and slabbing were quite obvious while skinning. very sensitive. the terrain looks pretty good, but the best lines were steep and north facing and therefore probably a death trap in those conditions. definitely will return to explore that terrain! the new inbounds terrain is mostly, um, disappointing. i knew it was going to be more like powder mountain than crystal or alpy, but still... some decent lines could still be found with a little traversing, and would be really nice with lighter snow. a mid-week pow dump might change my mind about the expansion, though i may prefer the steeper lines under the great white lift. gotta love the light crowds and old-school feel at wp. really refreshing with how bourgeois some ski areas feel these days...
