It was cornice actually.
They blew three bags near knoll two and brought down three large cornices on the ridge above.
Last I heard they were still doing work up on top of 261, if it did open today it was for a short period of time.

Talked to patrol, said it wasn't cornice, just generally high avy danger.

When I asked Patrol it was 2nd chair Thursday morning. Mega snow event was generally low wind, so lack of cornice at that time made sense. Also my buddy caused a small release (it got his attention though!) out in Trash Can Land and there was point release stuff happening in several places. It was a snorkel-out kind of day. All day long winds were picking up though, so I could see significant mobilization of the light snow and cornice building thrusday daytime and overnight. Thus a danger role-reversal Friday.
Sounds like a good shot of nash gate on Saturday, but that Sunday might be F'ed.
Oh and Thusday was brain-searingly good. Couldn't keep my 130mm Sumos visible.

I just got back from Alpy and the Nash gate was open as I went by for the last run. Too late for me to get there, but it looked great. Others were headed out.

Yes indeed! Nash gate opened somewhere around 2:30 today and it was silly silly!
Should be amazing first thing befor the hoards. The patrol I spoke with said they had been concerned about cornices. Looked like they had done a fair amount of blasting up there. We took 2 runs most of the debris was up high along the traverse. Stokes and draft dodger were lovely!!

We took a run down Mach Couloir today... Face shots all the way down! We caught one of the last chairs back up, but we didn't want to go back down that nasty Int'l entrance again... Can't we have at least ONE day with a good entrance to international...

They keep it that way so people can test the hard snow performance of their Pontoons . . .
