January 19, 2011 Brighton, powfest was created by Keith_Henson
The snow has deteriorated daily in Utah since I arrived last Wednesday with Tuesday being the worst yet--like skiing at Snoqualmie.

What a difference a day makes...

8 inches and mid-20's at Brighton on Wednesday morning. Treacherous drive up the unplowed canyon road with many spin-outs.

No lines at all. Powder was so deep the 1080 guns were traded after a couple run for the faty-pus'. Snowed all day--even when the sun was shining.

Utah. That's all.

So Keith, did you get up there before the canyon closure yesterday?

Damn jealous. Wish I had eight inches too. Oh.... wait......

They didn't close the BCC. The drive was treacherous because it had not been scraped or plowed and there was black ice underneath from the day before. After that was done there was no problem.

Here are some pics from yesterday (Thursday) of the remnants plus a couple of new inches.

The top picture is of the mountain ridge across from Snowbird. Despite the considerable avi danger, there were lots of tracks from backcountry skiers by the end of the day.

The lower picture is of American Forks Twin Peaks. Notice the snow plumes blowing off the top of the ridge line.
