Jill and I had some free passes so we drove about 3 hours to West Vancouver and Cypress Mtn.  If you head to Cypress there is overnight parking along the main access road between the cross country center and the downhill area in lot 3B.  Cypress has a rather unique ticket checking system.  Once you get your lift ticket at the lodge, they have a low fence with an opening where an individual checks your ticket and then you have access to all lifts on the two opposing mountains.
The conditions were firm, so it was a groomer day.  No one ventured off piste into the frozen crust.  We skied there last year after the Olympics in a light storm so visibility was poor.  On this day there was a bit of clouds but the views were great.  On Mt. Strachan you could see Howe Sound and the ferry from Horseshoe Bay making a crossing.  On Black Mountain, we had views of the city of Vancouver and the harbor area.  It was a treat to be skiing from Mt. Strachan at 4720’ and look down at sea level.  The ski area has a nice mix of intermediate and advanced terrain.
