December 30, 2010, Stevens Pass front and back

Within the area, I found skiing quite difficult with conditions varying from 18" powder to shaved ice within 10' of travel. Hiking and skinning a short distance from the lifts put us in much more pleasant and comfortable ski terrain, untracked old powder covered by 5" of light new fluff. In and out sun had little effect on the snow, wind was minimal. No crust anywhere that we could find.

We made fresh tracks between the pistes almost all day on the 5" Silas mentioned. Never made it to the Foggy Goggle, but conditions were better than expected with almost no ice. Bobby-Nancy and Meadows held soft snow even in the afternoon. Very brisk temps. but a fine fine day.
