Expansion area leftovers skiied very well as all but the very top (6800') appears protected from driving wind. The original part of the area, however, was strongly wind affected and skiied as slabby chowder. Coverage still barely more than minimal on main area steeps but satisfactory on the expansion zone. The new area appears prone to fog according to some locals, but time will tell. Very little challenging new terrain, but some nice pitches here and there. So far I've found the best lines on the north edge of the expansion.
Something to be aware of is what the patrollers and lifties are starting to descrbe as the bermuda triangle, where the unaware can get caught in a place tricky to get out of. the triangle has the new daylodge as it's peak and the two new chair bases as the lower left and right corners. The fall line skies well there but crossing the seemingly too high exit track, well before the area boundary below, has confused several in the last week, who drifted toward the south, and the wicked couloir shot to the hiway, about the need to make a traversing climb back to the main area. Keeping toward the north, in the triangle allows a line through the 'doughnut', a pitch similar to 'rockslide', with an exit to the main area. There was some loose talk about 'a shuttle, someday' for those who ski the couloir to the hiway. It needs more snow, though, at this point.
