Steven's Pass 10-15-10

Warmed up on the usual suspects and then they opened the backside. Knee deep pow everywhere!! and lots of happy folks . After noon things started to get a little heavy/chopped up, but there were still fresh lines to be had when I left around 1:30.

Thanks to the Steven's Pass workers for opening the backside today (it was scheduled to open on Sat) it was great!

Ditto that. After some nice fresh lines off 7th Heaven chair, we headed up Tye Mill chair to skin the backside but found it closed for control work. Another lap off 7th got us back up Tye just as the gate opened. No need for blasting, only surface sluffs said the patrol. A few runs on the Southrn Cross lift then lunch. Later we skinned north and did two runs west back to Big Chief, icy chunks with a 6" fresh cover was in the trees.

Finally a run east and long traverse back to the lift just as the patrol finished their sweep for the day. Beautiful moon and blue skies at sunset. Light snow and litle wind all day.

Just to let people know that Steven's Backside is closed again until Friday (as per their web page).  Supposedly they only decided to open the back  for the afternoon  to let it get packed down by skiers/boarders for a few hours.   Then today they could run the Cats around the bottom over that nice skier packed snow and not rip everything up.    So whomever was up there yesterday afternoon were the lucky few.
