Aaaahhhh, what a tuff mental start to the day, heard rumors of warm wet temps, saw big (74 mph 6am on the Avie web site) wind gusts on the mountain, plus fairly high avg winds…ouch, after a night of big winds…where did that come from in any of the forecasts I barely pay attention to. Oh well, it was a Wednesday and I’m still trying to keep last seasons every Wednesday ski streak going…plus Spouse #1 had the day off . So arrived to a wet sloppy parking lot at 8:10 – front row of the free lot – snow falling from the sky, not to much wind in the parking lot. No crowd around – duh – everyone was paying attention to the 5am Crystal report and the forecasts. Bonus of the day, boot top+ new (though somewhat heavy – good for the big plank Coombas), not many rocks, REX and GV running – though somewhat slowly, no lift lines to make up for slow lifts, sunshine sucker hole from around 11:15 till we quit at 2:30, snow quality improving on the shady north slopes due to wind and early snow fall, dropping temps, filtered sun (oh I mentioned that already), big winds off the ridge tops swirling like tornadoes….and oh, the main hamster lifts kept running all day. Skied a few runs in Bearpits, Lucky Trees, Doors 4 to 1, Showtime, Sunnyside, parts of M-world, GV bowl, Grubstake and main line of Ann’s and Dan’s run. Will not be as good tomorrow on the lower parts of the mountain and south facing slopes that have not been groomed or gotten big amounts of new snow ( or did not get skied today). Will be good on Chair 6 and probably Northway since neither were open today. Dang another day on the slopes….ddk
