March 26, 2010 Mt. Baker was created by Zap
It was a 6 plus hour drive from Silver Star to Mt. Baker, and the road was dry the entire way. The parking lot at the White Salmon lot at Baker was bare and dry. As we went to bed, I could see light snow showers starting. I woke up around 4am and looked out the window and could see about 6” atop the vehicle near us. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! The morning snow report was 10” of new and 28 F. OK, it’s going to be a morning powder event, and then it will probably turn to slush. Jill bought her senior ticket, I picked up a freebie, and we stood in line with a healthy crowd of 30 waiting for the start. At the top of C-7, the youth darted to chair C-5 for the steeper lines. We went to C-8. For 2 hours, we enjoyed untracked lines on the moderate terrain off C-8. By 11am, the temperature began to rise, the snow became thicker, and we spent another hour exploring various terrain around the area finding pockets of untracked. By noon, the snow was heavy and dripping off the lifts, and it was time to go. Here’s where I screwed up. I thought I would check the snow reports around WA on Ski Tiger. It appeared that we made the right choice UNTIL I foolishly looked at the BC resorts. I couldn’t believe it-Big White and Silver Star each received 12” new overnight. Geez !
Phase 1 of our 2010 Spring Skiing trip is done. It’s been 24 days on the road with 18 days of skiing. It started at Timberline with a powder day and ended with another powder day at Mt. Baker. Not bad for a couple of senior citizens.

You could drive back to Silver Star if you didn't mind a wet road....
