We spent the evening in lot P4 at Sun Peaks which is their overnight lot with a pretty nice view of the mountain. In the morning we stopped by Guest Services and received our free lift tickets with the Warren Miller coupon. The ski area has a reputation for grooming and it certainly lived up to that reputation. It was another sunny spring day, and the groomers’ were firm until the sun hit them and the cream developed. We spent hours riding the high speed quads and following the sun as the various aspects softened. Coverage was excellent on the trails, but off piste on the lower mountain was getting thin. The West Bowl T-bar and Burfield chairs do not operate midweek. Lower Burfield runs looked like they were getting scraped down to rock/dirt.
Afterwards we then drove to Vernon and had a soak in the hot tub at the Aquatic Center, then Jill got her Thai food fix in Vernon. We drove to Silver Star and spent the evening in their RV lot near the unfinished Fire Light Lodge with free wifi. The next morning was mostly sunny with a small system approaching that evening. We again picked up our free lift tickets and began cruising the groomers as the sun softened the various runs. After hours of riding the high speed lifts, we decided to recheck the weather forecasts before driving to Big White for our last free lift ticket. I noticed a quick moving weather system heading for the Cascades. I called Perl for a validation, and we decided to blow off Big White and head for Baker where they were forecasting 5-10” overnight. Spring skiing has been fun, but we desperately needed a powder fix.
