March 25-26, 2010, Schweitzer was created by silaswild
First days of a short, spartan ski safari. Nice sunrise view from the Tercel Townhouse of Lake Pend Oreille was followed by classic frozen courderoy skiing to start the day. Heard from my daughter that "chair 6" was the place to be, of course the chairs all have names now, not numbers. Headed for a slow double chair that appeared to have good terrain access, turned out it was Chair 6. Found some nice 4-6" powder leftovers on north facing slopes. Rode with some locals who advised me to head for the T bar. North slopes off it offered 10" deep untracked old powder.
The lifts here provide a lot of terrain variety, wish it were slightly higher altitude. Rain and snow Thursday evening, an inch of new by Friday morning. Poor timing has me here with a free thank you day to everyone from Schweitzer management Friday, but it still was not crowded. Fog and wind diminished my enthusiasm, plus the new snow only lightly covered the frozen ruts from yesterday.
There appears to be lots of lift accessible side/back country terrain. Anyone lurking here care to share their knowledge?
Off to 49 North in the afternoon, less than 100 miles away, but slow roads, so about 2.5hrs.

Love that place but Fog and Wind are a common factor however just how fog doesn't show up on the radar it also doesn't show up on the Schweitzer report. It sure is worth the time put in when you get rewarded w/ pow and bluebird. Take lots of pics of 49!
