Usually it is a good bet that Crystal on Prez Day Weekend is a recipe for huge, bittermaking crowds. Somehow today those crowds never showed. They didn't even fill B lot.

Forecast was for showers in morning but then getting better. Not so. Had better viz before noon and the weather got progressively more foggy and soggy. By end of day raining at base, parking lots all muddy.

Had every intention of doing mostly Southback today but it was closed initially. Opened later in the morning but by then I was entrenched on Northway and didn't feel like investing the time to move over. Pretty good heavy powder in Morning Glory. Bottom part Northway run grooming is nice, big improve from those nightmare moguls end of every run. But even so the ice was tricky. Also icy at the chokepoint chutes coming off Brand X.

Took a sidecountry run out the "B" gate and then skinned back up after the first glades ended, about 500vf worth, that was a lot of work. This was particularly nice deep heavy powder but it seemed upside down, with a lighter layer 10" under. Would fall out of every kickturn triangle.

Would be interested to here if anyone hit Southback today and how it was / what I was missing.

Serious revenue enhancement going on on CM blvd 35mph zone where curvy part starts/ends. Leadfoots beware.
