Stevens today was 5" new, generally good viz (tho it varied), not crowded (tho some schools had day off) and warm. Some precip (un-dry snow), some wind but not a lot. A little fog. Forecast high of 35 and it did feel that warm.
Glad I made it up today since weekend is going to be more crowded for sure, and possibly warmer with rain replacing the damp snow today.
Best runs of the day for me was Big Chief late morning. Snow still felt reasonably dry (or should I say non-wet) and not as shredded/skied out as rest of Front Side and some parts of Back Side. But when we returned at noon after lunch, what had been not-so-travelled goodness was now Cascade Cement.
Viz and fog came and went in the afternoon, was sunny from 2 till when we left at 2:45. But snow quality deterioration was consistent from mid morning on.
2 weeks later, S. Cross & Black Diamond chairs are still not operating. With less chairs at Stevents operating, and maybe more people there due to those escaping the SnoCrummby Slush this El Nino season, I'm glad I won't be there this weekend.
I know we all, including me, love to dis Crystal mgmt and staff. Folks at Stevens do seem to be generally more customer-friendly. But when Crystal has a chair or two not operating, I think they do a better job of fixing it faster, and I KNOW they do a better job of letting you know it's out of service and why.
