Temps were warm in the morning with rain on the way up Chinook at around 9:30a. Certainly looked as though they received the 2" noted on the website with some definite warming. First run through the wall yielded some clumpy turns, groomers were speedy.

Made four trips up to Snorting Elk, ran into different NorthFace pro-comp riders each trip. Every group had great things to say about Crystal without even being asked; one group from Colorado and another from the Mammoth area of Cali were particularly boisterous/envious. By far the best snow was a top Snorting Elk; easily 8" of wind deposited goods!

The legs were weary by about 2pm. Made a final speed lap down Ferks, slid the bottom portion head-first on my back for about 30'... Tired and time to leave! The weather was changing by this time with cloud cover and lower temps which caused the early morning snow blanket to begin to freeze which turned the groomers into a packed speed-zone that Clark W. Griswold would be proud of.

Snow/rain mix upon departure, web says currently snowing at 7:52pm...

Cheers!

Yea, Thursday was a weather day.  Quite variable depending on altitude.  As we drove up the boulevard, we got above the morning cloud deck and got a spot of blue sky.  Wet snow on the goggles, fog and fresh white snow made visibliity a total zero late afternoon.  I lifted my goggles and took some eye stinging just so I could make it down iceberg.  The group that I was skiing with looked like a train wreck.  Flailing all over the place.

But...... between 10:20 and 12:30 am, the spotty cloud cover was about half way down powderbowl.... and we were basically skiing in sunshine.  We did a real nice run down Northway in sunshine.... nice!   At the top of the North chair, I looked around and could see we were in a big sun hole, and knew it wouldn't last.  Skiing two hours of sunshine was sweet.  Boy, did it turn nasty after lunch!

Snow is actually pretty good, I think the wind is taking to moisture out of the wet fallen snow.  So, the "pow" is on the heavy side.  Sweet run approaching  Deer Fly, which  was a smooth ride.  Feeling just a little stick at the bottom of Deer Fly.  Groomers are good.   Back up on Saturday with the grandson.
