Stevens reported 4" overnight and it was dense powder. But these are desperate times and it felt great to make some turns in the untracked for a few hours. With the Southern Cross chair still closed, the groomers have expanded their terrain and it was enjoyable on both sides of the mountain. There were no crowds or lift lines during our visit. Off piste the new snow covered the firm base but the ungroomed terrain was not the best terrain today. They need another 6" to venture off piste and not feel the firm/crust base. Just before noon, we noticed a fine mist(rain) on our goggles at the higher elevations while the lower mountain was still snowing lightly. The fog became denser and it was time to head home. The highway was snow covered from the hairpin turn to the ski area on our arrival. The road was bare and wet when we departed around noon.
