Decent day but not great.
Not much more than an inch of fresh at base. At top of backside, more like 5 inches. Pretty dense windslabs just E of crest, like on Aquarius. Definitely saw things that if saw on larger snow surfaces of backcountry snow would cause concern - hollow crusts, shooting cracks etc.

The new snow was not quite enough to cover the frozen horrors of what lay beneath off piste on the backside, but it was probably still a huge improvement versus not being covered at all.

Best snow might have been the Cloud 9 side of 7th. A few scraped places but largely it was the proverbial packed powder. Not so good was double diamond - the underlying ice was dense and vicious, with the new snow sliding off instantly on turns. Groomers on front side were better than backside although bottom of backside eg Borealis had a quite enjoyable 'spring mix' of wet powder going slushy - the underlayer was soft and not ice so could finally let er rip a bit.

Pretty good weather window til about 1:30 when snow and fog moved in. A medium crowd for a weekday, probably a lot of pent up demand for something even close to decent snow at Stevens.

sounds like you encountered all possible snow conditions on the same day at the same place. Gotta love the Pac NW!
