Thurs - from the Snorting Elk.
A.m. - freshies over hard pack. By lunch, more of an accummulation. I think the meadow ice is getting covered. Moderate fog, winds, variable from winter calm here at the lodge to face rippers on the rim. Lots of folks here. Luckyshot - pillows on boiler plate. It's piling up though.... ski on!

Happy New Year!
Yes, a fairly good ski day with the fresh snow, especially if you have good winter clothing. It was kind of stormy as the weather moved through... I was skiing down Green Valley Bowl making nice little turns through the chop when I realized that I really couldn't see anything.
Lots of folks were hitting Snorting Elk Bowl. You might as well make your own traverse path across to North Side. A little blasting from around the Kellys Gap area.
On the steeps, be prepared for hitting patches of boilerplate. I did some edge sharpening... think it helped.
By the end of the day chair six was closed for wind? Patches of blue appeared above... a little sun casted some golden glow on the snow.
I think we got about four inches of creamy stuff that fell as wind blown small icy stuff. The groomers got pretty skier bumped. Almost pow like off groom.
That base meadow still has bare pockets, but the sheet ice is getting covered.
Although not a maximum crowd it was a good show, with lots of kids.

Happy New Year to all...
Good skiing was chased away by rain about 2pm, at least 1/2 way up Northway chair. I was in denial calling it something else. Definitely moderate rain after the fireworks at 9:30pm, parking lot temp 39 degrees and very icy road conditions. Guess I'll be taking a leisurely approach to the day today.
