I left around noon as it began to snow moderately and it was still snowing down at exit 38. Whatever mischief up high that caused the 30 minute freezing rain interlude was pretty unfortunate. You might be able to find unaffected snow in the trees. Someone evidently cut a 15 foot wide slab off at a small (30-foot high) roller at the very top of central express (aka bonanza) that slide to the ground. The crown looked like it was maybe 18 inches. I think it was just the new snow, although it's possible that it involved weakened old snow since I have a vague recollection of the area being snowy last time that I was up at central.
In an informal survey, every respondent agreed that it was lamesauce that Alpental wasn't open.

A face shot is a face shot, yes! Three of us were up there too, and we felt the freezing rain crust to be only egg shell thickness. Once it had been cut up a bit the fresh pow underneath made for excellent skiing and the afternoon dumping just made it better....The freezing rain subsided after a half hour, but the damage had been done--on subsequent runs the crust set up. The skiing was still ok, at least on my big ol' gotamas. Does it count as a faceshot if I nail myself in the face with a chunk of raincrust?
Eddie Bauer had rented Summit West for a night skiing Christmas party, with indoor gingerbread house making and holiday videos for the non outdoor employees. Very nice on the fresh snow since West was closed all day.
We saw that interesting slab also, looked like a snowboarder cut it. Too bad you had to leave at noon, the skiing only got better. Today telemetry appears good still, thanks to cold easterly flow?I left around noon as it began to snow moderately and it was still snowing down at exit 38.
