December 14, 2009 Crystal

What a surprise to arrive at Crystal and have the sun shining, no wind and 6-8" of new powder.  Today was the first day of skiing this season for Jill.  She had her right knee "scoped" in late October and has been "stuck" at home during our early November powder days.  Today worked great- we skied the lower angle terrain all morning and enjoyed boot deep powder.  We never skied any steep terrain.  We noticed a few folks on the steeper terrain but not many.  The lifts were deserted. High Campbell was running and most folks seemed to be skiing Powder Bowl or rope line on the lift side.  We left at 12:30 as a few clouds started to roll in and I enjoyed a constant smile from my "ski buddy" on the ride home until she took her usual nap.

Report from B Lot: Had to take a short nap before logging in, Way too much fun today. Glorious freshies everywhere, 8" on top of very firm bumps off the groomers. 1st lap down the 'berg was one big face shot. Elk bowl was survival skiing. Lucky and chair 9 runs got chopped early so up going fast became even more fun. Today was my first on a pair of early rise Katanas, took a few laps to figure them out, but when I did the 141mm tip definitively raised my game. At 5:30 it's blowing and snowing, South and North are rumored to open tomorrow. Best guess is another foot should help with consolidation of today's dumpage and fill in the bumps a bit. Freezing levels are slated to rise later in the week so tomorrow just might be a good day to call in well. Remember Christmas is just around the corner, so you better be good.

Only stayed for the first 2 hours but it was SICK.
