November 18th, Crystal

As promised 2 feet of fresh AND bluebird. Very light crowds. Bummer was long wait to get get Rex open while Patrol was marking several hazardous areas, incl the gully at the bottom of IceBerg and the flats above Rex. Bonus was the reopening of Chair 6 to the Throne  and Powder Bowl. Throne was too sweet, rope line above BearPits was hateful. Beneath the 24" of fresh was a rain affected breakable crust. Good day to ski aggressively.  and stay above the crust. Interesting huge snow pile at the top of A lot, rumor has it that this parking lot snow will be recycled to Discovery Chair to fill in the rain damage. Best of day was TLC to Chair 4 for untouched snow at 2pm. I cycled back and grabbed the the Hippy skis and had a nice walkabout to the bottom of Silver Basin. The creek is still flowing, 3-4 feet below the snow level. Looked like a another party had hucked their gear across then took a leap of faith. I found a snow bridge that held up. Nice dry snow, can't wait to get a shot at it from the King side. As of 5:42 the the wind is howlin in B lot hopefully blowing in another 2 feet for tomorrow. I remain older and slower.

As for conditions in the Silver Basin, we were having 4 inch slabs on Southern slopes while it was only sluffing on the North Face of the King. Loading was happening on both Eastern and Northern Slopes and our skin track was nonexistent after a hour long hike.

10:00 pm update. Blowing and snowing heavily Whoot Whoot

My son , Stewie got a powder alert from Crystal saying 20" new. He called me to say he was ditching school and going to Crystal.
I was so proud.
However he said there wasn't 20" when he got there and Crystal site was only reporting 10" so I think Crystal are up to their old tricks on exaggerating the Powder alerts.
However.. Looks good for the weekend and next week.
