May 3, 2009, Alpental was created by glenn_b
After bailing on an attempt on Earl Peak in the Teanawy via Standup Creek (sketchy coverage on S facing slopes) drove up to Alpental for the last Sunday's festivities. After one run off the top caught the last chair and skied out to the Piss Pass party. Some twenty of us booted up to Point 5456 and dropped into the Great Scott Bowl. Snow was mushy but manageable and as always, the scenery magnificent. Lots of avy debris in the valley below Bryant and Chair Peaks.

Hmmm wow, that is a pretty long backtrack for a Plan B :)
Was it your impression that there was overall a big-time and disappointing south facing meltout in the Teanaway? As in, future Teanaway goers might need to be wary of Bean Basin, Bills, Fortune and stuff like that being gone up high before the road down low enables drives to the trailheads?

I'd guess it's a fairly "normal " situation for the Teanaway this year.  Coverage up high looks good even on the S faces and I'll bet the usual venues will be good well into the month.  As far as the road, the N Fork is melted out to within a mile or so of Beverly Creek.
