On the 28th, I had a free ticket to Silver Mt. and enjoyed cruising the groomers, but a small snow event was forecasted for the next day.  The obvious choice was to drive about 20 miles further east on I-90 to Lookout Pass.  Yeah, it’s not on you’re A list but this place has history.  The Idaho Ski Club started skiing here in 1938 – a few years before I was born.  The ski area sits on the Idaho and Montana border at the top of Lookout Pass.  There’s an RV lot that’s full of big rigs and their snow machines, but the action and noise stops once the sun sets.  It started snowing around 5pm and continued lightly overnight.  About 4” of new covered the slopes.  Lift tickets were $20 and the old wooden lodge is like turning back time a few decades.  The 3 double Riblet chairs service runs from 700 to 1000vf.  There’s the Idaho lift, the Montana lift and the North lift.  All 3 converge at the same summit and provide different exposures and a nice mix of open slopes, glades and steep, treed runs. Three buckles deep powder never splashed my knees, but for the 3 hours I skied there I shared most runs with only 1 or 2 other folks.  And it was a Sunday. There are some interesting touring possibilities towards the lake area, but during the storm visibility was nil.  OK, I’ve checked it off my list.
