February 19, 2009 Homewood - TV Special was created by Zap
After skiing with the “kids” on Wednesday at Diamond Peak, Jill and I went to Homewood ski area today. Homewood is now owned by the same company that owns Alpine Meadows. It was a sunny day with temps in the 20’s. Lift tickets for seniors are $25 M-Th or $35 F-Su and holidays. This is one of our favorite places to ski powder in the trees on windy days when the big resorts have all their upper lifts on “wind hold”. The remaining trip report focuses on a” life altering experience.”
We were riding a chair with Michelle, a young ski patroller. I asked about Quail Face which has some excellent steep terrain but is often closed. She mentioned that it had been closed during the last dump and that the Warren Miller film crew was filming there yesterday. But she had just opened (and skied!) it after removing their jump, and said there was about 2 feet of great powder in the area. Needless to say, Jill and I bolted off the chair and skated and climbed out towards the access point for Quail.
As we reached the top of Quail Face, I noticed a film crew and as we approached them they asked if they could film us skiing Wally’s Folly. Of course we said ‘sure’. Here’s the setup: sunny, 2 feet of powder, temps in the low 20’s with the 55 degree chutes and Lake Tahoe as a backdrop. My 20 seconds of fame began. Jill was next to the crew as one of them remarked “what a beautiful skier”. Honestly, that’s what they said to her-
. Jill smiled and darted down the slope. The line descends to Quail Lake where a short up-climb on a cat track brings you back to the main ski runs. As we skied back to the main area we met Karey who explained that they were from Tahoe TV and they were filming a special segment on off-piste skiing at Tahoe ski areas plus a segment for a snow conditions update this evening – and to be sure to watch because they were going to use the segment with Zap skiing. I’m pretty convinced that once the video segment is released, the offers will be flooding in. I’m not letting this go to my head. I plan to remain the same warm, cute and lovable (and humble!) person you’ve grown to admire over the years. Thanks for all of the support.

I went to Tahoe TV and it doesn't appear to be there yet. The anticipation is killing me.
