Montana Snowbowl, February 11, 2009 was created by Keith_Henson
The final day ski day on my road trip, Montana Snowbowl.

Through filtered sun, it snowed all day and deposited the lightest, driest, cold smoke producing snow piled up over 6 inches. The problem was that off-piste this beautiful snow was over top of a hard, hateful ice crust and/or icy bumps and the snow would compress to nothing making for some unpleasantness and disappointment.

Headed to the other and higher chair (Little LaVelle Creek) (they have 2 slow and long fixed grips which reduces skier impact but makes for lots of chair riding) where the conditions were better. But it was in the trees, for which Snowbowl is renowned, that the goods were to be had. Ran down and switched to my powder boards (1080 guns) and then entered the glade-iatorial arena

Every single run until the chair closed at 3:30 I skied untracked, shin deep, tree powder. Only saw a couple people in the trees as everyone else was on the groomers. As I tracked out the snow in the trees over the course of the day, the trees got tighter.

What a great adventure in the Rockies I've had. Out on the road 24 days, skied 17 days at 10 different ski areas. I am one lucky guy.
