Grand Targhee, February 3, 2009 was created by Keith_Henson
Though it was in the single digits in the valley in Tetonia, the prediction was for Tuesday was for 38 degrees at the Targhee and bright sunshine. The night before there was a half inch dusting.

The great news is that I was able to find a partner in the parking lot in less than a minute to share my Shell "buy one get one free coupon" and so copped a $34 ticket.

The snow at the Targhee was great. (My understanding is that this is the biggest asset of the Targhee, the consistent quality of the snow). By noon the slopes in the sun had softened up off piste to be very enjoyable and there was an absence of large bumps. The groomers were fast with lots of snow and no ice.

The views of the Tetons from the ridge of the Tetons were outstanding. Very few people at the resort, unlike Jackson hole about 45 miles away which is notorious for crowds.

I had a wonderful time. Having said that, is it worth $69? Not for me. The place has 3 lifts (well 4, but one serves only the terrain park), of which one is  a fixed double. Further, much of the resort has double fall lines.

So today I decided to save $69 and take a rest day and go tomorrow and try to use another Shell coupon which is good at the Targhee on Thursday (as well as Tuesday and Sunday.) [This turned out to be a good move as the resort is closed today due to a water failure...]

Snow is expected on Thursday night and I'm heading to Big Sky on Friday.

I think your second shot shows "Mary's Nipple".  Great hike access skiing around the nipple.  Thanks for bringing back good memories.
