Solitude, January 29, 2009 was created by Keith_Henson
Yesterday was major snow and blow in the Cottonwoods. Little Cottonwood Canyon Road was closed for a couple of hours. What a difference a day makes. Today at Solitude there was not a cloud in the sky and temperatures in the teens. The only evidence of the weather the day before was a couple of large downed trees and lots of fresh powder.

Much of the mountain was wind scoured. But the east facing slopes and many of the glades were deep with fluff. Spent most of the day doing laps in the Honeycomb Canyon. And it does take most of the day. You have to ride 3 lifts to get back to the top of the canyon then a fairly long traverse. But well worth it. Though the temperatures warmed in the sun today the snow remained light and airy until the end of the day.

That is one of my favorite locations down there, many powder runs to be had even though you have to do the three chair tango.
Also, great access to the Wolverine Cirque over to Patsy Marley, Chutes, glades it's all there for the hiker. And yes...the greatest snow on Earth!
Looks like your having fun Keith...

The traverse and the 3 lifts is what makes it so good for so long.I know somebody somewhere is thinking and wishing for gondola. Beware of what you wish for. There is a little shortcut on the bottom traverse if that helps?
