Alta, January 26, 2009 was created by Keith_Henson
On Monday, the road to Alta opened at 8:15. The temperature at the top was in single digits and never rose above 14 degrees. Eight inches of the light, dry fluff. The good stuff that squeaks when you walk on it.
Though it snowed lightly most all day, the sun was often out and visibility was excellent.
Long lines waiting for the Collins chair to open. Very crowded and tracked out faster than Crystal. Large amounts of terrain were not opened yet.
Pic below is of one of the youngsters hucking below the Supreme chair. (It's not me).
Looks like there is more snow on the way and man is it cold up there!

Alta is a weird thing. Sure its sick and can be deep and light.....but its always crowded and diced up early as Keith said. Doesnt it make you realize the beauty of PowMow....and even Crystal.
I think everyone who skis there has an average or 4 Alta stickers on their car, one on thier helmet and 2 on each ski, tip and tail. I was on TGR and saw a sticker that said "No one cares you ski at Alta". I want one.
Good to see a UT TR though....I miss the Wasatch. Are you going to check out Snowbasin? John Paul trees...

i almost dropped in to alta when i was at snowbird a couple weeks ago, but the line was pure windslab... i wonder if those "boardist" snobs would kick out a splitboarder with ski boots and poles...? what ridiculous nonsense that rule is... >
maybe obama will end that discrimination...
