Powder Mountain, January 23, 2009 was created by Keith_Henson
As the snow phone message announced this morning, today is why they call it Powder Mountain. When I reached the top of the very steep and icy road to base of Powder it was snowing hard and the entire place showed nary a track.
The ticket window opened at 8:50 for 9:00 opening. A little casual.
Virtually every run all day was in untracked powder. I wish I could say that it was light and fluffy blower. In fact, the locals, whining, were calling it cascade concrete but that was an exaggeration. It snowed until mid afternoon. Visibility was a challenge all day and so I was mostly in the trees. Did clear up some places for a couple of minutes.
Hooked up with a local in the afternoon and we mostly skied Cobabe Canyon.
The good news is that this is the first of a series of storms with valley snowfall predicted for Monday morning. Off to Brighton tomorrow.
Dig these crazy tracks...

I love you brother, stuck in Whistler for the week with noting but sunshine and stupid fast groomers. Blackcomb Glacier looks like Bosnia.

I'm bumming for my pac northwest skier cohort but I've got problems of my own, like seeing when it is coming down so hard and hassling with powder cords.

Keith,
Remember there are a couple of items necessary for seniors while powder skiing.
1. Snorkel with a colored balloon attached for tracking purposes.
2. Diapers to allow you to keep skiing and blow by the kids finding a tree.
Make us proud.
