It was a beautiful day to be up in the mountains, especially considering the weather in the city.  The conditions were spring-like with the only solid ice found on north facing shaded slopes.  The groomers (lucky shot, mr. magoo, etc. were actually a lot of fun and super crusable.)  Showtime was monster warm bumps and definitely a challenge.

From the top of rex I think that I saw all 5 volcanoes, and you could actually see the olympics as well towering over the fog of the sound. There was also an impressive slide east across the river/410 towards rainier visible from the summit house area (slide pic below.)

Anyone ski Crystal today--Was it soft?? (SAT Jan 17)

telemetry showed it was cooler and more windy today than 1/16. Would like to ski there tomorrow on SUN if it's soft.
I was on the Muir snowfield today and even though telemetry showed it was warm, it was windy and icy-ish sastrugi (sp?). Definitely not a soft ski...

thanks!

I was not there--still waiting on the ankle :'(--Not sure what the groomed runs might have been but I was called at 1:30 with a report from an East Peak trip defined as "scary". Hard, icy, an occasional soft deposit of granular snow and some crusts here and there plus wind gusts.

mmmmmhh???I toured East peak yesterday 1/17 and had glorious corn turns from the top all the way down to the valley! It was windy on the ridge but we even got a nice run in Cement Basin on a more south facing slope at the north end of the basin, although I admit the the skin up had it's moments.

Crystal today 1/18 was glorious spring skiing! By late afternoon the frontside had softened enough for slushy bumps. I like slushy bumps, always have , always will.

Doesn't surprise me you love slushy bumps, especially after your performance at the top of RX today!

;D

sssssssshhhhh!
I had a gaper moment and came off the chair lift and crashed into about three people on my butt taking them out like a bowling ball. All in front of the cool kats who stand at the top!
