Man I miss the snow and I wish I could have been at Alpie for this past weekend, that would have been awesome to get some turns in there before they close! But I'm on a gulf cruise right now on the USS Abraham Lincoln and there is a shortage of snowfall! It's not all that bad because we pull into port every month or so and we usually pull into Dubai which happens to have an indoor ski area! It isn't much for an all day event, but it's a great thought knowing that you can still get your turns in.
My day started with a tour out in the sand dunes, off roading with my buddies, then camels rides and 4-wheelers. My tour ended with me strapping on a snowboard and surf down a sand dune which was very cool! Could that technically be categorized as a back country report!?! Afterwards we went to the Emirates mall to gear up and hit the snow after being out in the 100 degree desert sands! The slope and the snow reminded me of skiing my home town mountain, Lost Valley, in Auburn ME. For thoughs of you who have skied out east know that it's mostly hard packed, man made snow. The slope itself was an "L" shape slope with I think 600 feet of vertical so I think I may have done alittle over 10K, which is great considering where I was! They have a bunch of rails and some kickers for park junkies, other wise you can just tool around in the wide open areas dodging all the new skiers that have never seen snow! I stuck mostly to the kicker section for a while and then did some high speed descents, top to bottom, under 20 seconds, that is a very short slope!
All in all, it was a great time! It's no PNW skiing, but I will take what I can get and maybe I'll be able to keep skiing at least once a month and continue on to next season, and just maybe I will be able to get my first TAY!!! I hope you all are enjoying the snow and getting some good turns in, I read up on all your posts while I away making sure I can keep my thoughts towards when I can make see the mountains again!

I was there two days earlier. The biggest problem with Ski Dubai is the lift is so dang slow... I can't help but think it would be faster to skin up than take that slow chair up.
I was impressed by the quality of the snow, however. And the price is pretty good considering what they need to do to keep the snow cold.
For the record, I'm in Washington right now, and there's some pretty good snow hanging around here too.
