Alpental Saturday 3/28/08 was created by yard sale
I had morning commitments, so I didn't get to Alpental until 1 PM. The lots were full but a few people were leaving so parking wasn't a problem. No line at Armstrong, maybe ten minutes at C2. Knoll 1 gate was closed, but Elevator was open, and that seemed to be where all the serious skiers were going. I was with my nine year old, so we stayed in bounds.

The morning report said 12" of new. With a snow level as low as the hills in town, the quality was excellent. The board at the top of chair 2 reported 15" of new, and that seemed conservative in places. With all the locals out in Snake Dance and Elevator, there were LOTS of unskied stashes on the Edelweiss side of C2. The Fan only had a few tracks on it when we first got there. Lots of freshies on Gunmount, Lower Rollen, and The Fan. It looked like those venturing out the high traverse over Edelweiss were making fresh tracks, and I can only imagine how good Breakover and Shot 6 were (my nine year old daughter will ski diamonds and Nash, but she's not so crazy about trees or hairy traverses).

Our last run down Nash confirmed where everybody was heading. Upper Nash was a little crowded and pretty skied out, but then everybody disappeared out the gate to SD/Elevator. Lower Nash still had plenty of unskied patches at 4 PM! Our last couple of runs it was positively DUMPING! The kind of weather where you have a half inch of snow on you by the time you get to the top of chair 2. With the morning report showing another 11 inches of powder, and with it being cold enough to get a few flakes in town, Sunday must be pretty fantastic too.

Is it really almost April???

I was there today (Sun 29th) first thing. I found it as you report, plus 8-12" new, or more. After my first trip up Chair 2 (opened about 9:30), a big line developed. Everything was skiing well, whoops and faceshots. What looked like pow over tracked crud skiied deep and soft. Adrenalin and Lower I were very nice. I had to leave at 10:30, but a great morning. Stayed cool, lightly cloudy/flurries while I was there, filtered sun. Elevator gate reportedly open.

I was there on Sunday as well, the snow was great, I got fresh tracks through adrenaline and snake dance on my first run, too much fun. The line to chair 2 kept growing through out the day though, I figure it would let up by lunch time, no such luck. I left around 2pm, got sick of waiting.

The elevator gate was open all day, most of the cracks back there where filled back up. The skiing back there was pretty good, although go stripped more and more through out the day. They finally opened up the knoll gate at around noon, but they closed the high traverse because they were worried about avys coming form the top. I didn't get a chance to go out there.

Alpy was off the hook, 10 chairs back at the opening of 2, maybe the third or fourth to the bottom of Nash, down to Snake Dance, into Elevator, blower all the way. Then later out to the cleaver behind KH and J... Best turns in Stokes bowl ever followed by wall street blower! Legs are blown today, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, what a cycle!
