Thursday - Whoo Hoo.... yip, yip, yip.... plowed the pow. All three inches of it.
Three inches of freshie. Looked like a winter wonderland. Micro snowfall all day. Fog, varied visibility from white on white. That fresh snow is very white. Snow on the parking lot this morning, gone by closing - just temperature variations.
The snow pack is in good condition and an occasional freshie is nice. However, it was a little strange. While skiing straight on the lower slopes, it was a soft ride. But, when making turns, the edges were scraping the hard pack. So, dry loose snow on top of frozen stuff.. Didn't notice it so much after going up the Rex.
Did our whoo hoo stuff for a while on the lower slopes, then up the Rex. A little more fog. Bowl effect visuals. I made a mistake in forgetting to bring my yellow lenses. But we rode it hard down GV Bowl, Northface and Snorting Elk. Sometimes skied by touch... getting used to that. Slid off between the trees for a pow experience... felt like nine inch pow. However, some verts had an ice chunk under pow feeling.
I guess the freestyle competition is some kind of long term thing... they were doing it last week and more today off Grubstake. I found myself surrounded by a pack of crazies approaching the bottom of GV chair... Then I connected the dots... they were hyped up freestyle competitors... They must be taking intravenous adrenaline hits.
Ok, High Campbell and Northback were closed. While skiing Luckyshot, I stopped to talk to a lady ski patroller who was skiing with her avy dog on a leash... that's a trick. Asked her about the closures... she said it was ice. We talked about how the freshie had no holding ability on the ice. I suppose there must be a history of folks getting hurt in icy circumstances.
Lower Bull run was slightly bumped and in good condition. No sign of lower slope warming. On the news this evening they said that it was simply a cold day.
Light crowd.. actually parked in the main lot. Got absolutely lonely around there by three pm. We skied hard. No new grooming. Wore turtle neck shirt and light fleece under a shell jacket... got cool while on the chair, but ok while skiing. Got a little damp from getting snowed on all day.
