Mar 1, Crystal Yay La Nina

Spent most of this week doing sunny laps South Back so this morning was a nice surprise. 6-8 at the base, quite a bit more on top, colder temps made for great quality, particularly in the trees. Hooked up with TAYer Keith Henson for several Northway routes, all just like the commercial...Virgin Territory and untracked. Morning Glory to Puckers was exceptionally nice. Some minor 8-12 releases on the exposed slopes, much better consolidation than I expected. The eastern exposures were very sketchy with hard bullet proof crusts. We tested the waters with a glorious run down the old Lower Northway, so nice to fall line ski with no bumps below. we got over 1000 feet of untracked !!! Walked out and hitched back up to the ski area and hit North again with a way OB expedition that ended up on the bicycle trail and with another walk out from the old Northway bus stop. Keith really manned up and skied some drops that only the Big Dawgs hit. As a side note OR hosted Vertfest today with two courses, a relay and a split board class. All of the gear reps were on hand with free demos etc. Good time had by all. Next weekend is Jr Freeride on Chair 6 with the Big Kids the following weekend. Don't give up on winter yet. What a totally wonderful day it was. We skied so much powder and such long untracked sections.

It wasn't all orgasmic though. Getting down through the icy scraped off 100 yard gully in the woods (I don't if even Kieth Rollins could have skied it!) was the price paid...
