February 26 & 28, 2008 Wolf Creek Pass, CO was created by Zap
Jill and I spent a couple of days skiing packed powder wth our east coast grandkids in southern Colorado's snow capital. I spent a day running the short people through the trees and searching out powder stashes and another day cruising. I must say that it's a lot easier skiing the trees when you're about 3 feet tall. Wolf Creek may only have about 1000 vf but it stretches along a long ridgeline that has a variety of bowls, chutes, cliff bands and trees. I wasn't able to break away to do any touring but I saw plenty of skin tracks on the Pagosa Springs side of the pass. It's a wonderful "old style" ski area with reasonable rates, friendly staff and varied terrain for all types of snow enthusiasts. I convinced 2 of the 3 short people(#3 is too young) that breaking trail for grandpa would be fun, especially if we then went skiing in the trees. I'm on plan.

Thanks for the great reports! Its heartwarming to hear of your dedication to tradition and passing of the torch to the next generations! I could imagine nothing better than to have been turned on to backcountry skiing and the lore of the mountains by grandparents! And breaking trail is such a great part of that tradition!
