Having grown up in Maine and skiing places like Lost Valley, Sugarloaf, Shawnee Peak and the ever impressive Sunday River. I always loved it there because it was, at the time, soo big. But now, it's really nothing now having skied in the PNW and in the Rockies. I'm on vacation in Maine and today my buddy, who I work with in Everett who happens to be on vacation in New Hampshire met up and went to the "River." He had never skied in Maine but has skied thru out NH most of his life so he had high hopes but we both new it was going to be frozen, man-made, hard packed granular. It was crap! We traversed across all seven peaks only finding more ice and a lot more wind. It felt like 4 degrees and we were miserable. I have skied in some temps in the -10 range but I felt horrible today. We went all the way back to the other side towards the car doing like 40 mph down some runs, it was nuts! I think the only enjoyment of skiing at the River today was that I got to blow past all these people with this thought, I ski in the PNW and love it!!! They have no idea! And for all you lovers of the PNW ski areas, there was a Thule ski box with Alpie, Crystal, and Baker stickers on it with a Mass. licence plate. I thought that was great! There will pictures to come and please also check out the write up of New Hampshires own Red Hill back country report!

Good to see a NE ski area report. I grew up in NH and snowboarded/worked at Loon Mtn. Funny to see you mention Shawnee Peak as I used to go to a weekly night snowboard race there, but that was like 17 or so years ago. Where is your buddy from in NH?

Yeah, I know where Center Harbor is, my mom lives in Meredith. I haven't been to Wildcat in many many years, didn't even know they were still open,. They have some steep runs there.

I love that ski slope! I am sorry you must endure the ice and the cold temps though.
I remember feeling all beat up after a good day skiing the bumps and the ice on the East Coast. Dont need as much ibuprofen out here.
