This topic appeared to have begun with the best of intentions, i.e. that of a civil discussion and exchange of information.

Maybe it is just me but I get the distinct feeling that (unless it has already happened) a bad turn is just around the corner.

Please remember, the norm here is civil discussion and the absence of personal attack or belittlement.  Folks, you all seem to be intelligent adults with a passion for skiing and a difference of opinion.  Differences, if discussed in an amicable manner have been known to bring improvement for all concerned.

Let's not let this deteriorate into a name calling fest.  You folks are way too cool for that ;)

Well said Ron.

Snowgirl, thanks for your comments. I thought they were well presented, though I don't have a dog in this fight. Sounds like getting kids season passes in the spring is the way to go, at $50. Do I have to show my ID with that, or will you take me at your word that I'm only 10 years old? ;)

Ron, thanks for jumping in. I think it had already happened. I think there is useful information in this thread, so instead of deleting the whole thing I cleaned it up, trying to remove the incivility but keep the useful stuff.

I do have to add that this recent outbreak of incivility we've been having, across a number of different threads, is getting to be tiresome. Every outbreak requires considerable time and energy to be spent by the moderators, who don't get paid for their efforts and who have plenty of other, much more enjoyable, things to do.

To everyone who posts here: please keep in mind that the expression of an opinion that is different from yours is not the same as a personal attack on you, so please don't respond as if it were. There are many people with many different viewpoints who post here, so there will almost always be someone who disagrees with your viewpoint. Useful discussions can result from these differing viewpoints if we all keep the discussions civil.

Sounds like a big question re kids passes is: Will the $50 spring deal persist? If so, sounds like a great deal. Just requires some planning to get it.

Hey!  Thanks to Snowgirl for discussing things with us!   Ski season just goes by too fast... can you do something about that?    (that's why I started messing around with backcountry skiing... I had withdrawal problems....)

And lastly, I think everyone needs to cut patrol some slack.  Considering all the snow we’ve received recently (over 10 feet in just 2 weeks) they have done a fantastic job of getting the mountain open on a regular basis (except when Mother Nature interferes with wind and other factors like rising freezing levels that are out of our control).  We don’t save it for the weekend.  Remember Friday with 30” of untracked up top?  Wow, everything but Southback was open by 11am.   Due to high avalanche danger and patrol having their hands full inbounds, Southback did not open until Sunday afternoon.

SnowGirl, props for mentioning this.
You are the only person representing a ski area that has stepped up to support patrol that I have seen on this or any other forum. These people have logged many, many hours running control routs to make things safe for the public in what has been anything but normal season. These people work very hard to get things open, working long hours as conditions dictate, which this year has been frequent. I'm not patrol staff, however I see and understand the effort these men and women put in every day, they deserve more respect then they get.
