Sun Feb 10, Crystal was created by Scotsman
Crystal today was rather good. Not huge crowds like Saturday and they opened the South Back around 11ish after a bombing campain that rivaled the " shock and awe" of Baghdad!
The vis was variable within the ski area and the skiing was hardpack and frozen death cookies off-piste but up on the Throne Ridge and King there where even sunny periods. 8)
First run from the King into Silver Basin was very near breakable crust and challenging. : ???
2nd run from Boxcar Cornice was softer and pretty good. :D
3rd run from nearer Three-Way peak was soft buttery goodness. ;D
Craters from the bombing but only surface sluffs and I hate to say it after reading the avy reports, but the SB felt bomber and although viz was variable I couldn't see much evidence of naturals in the BC.
Got much colder in the afternoon and hopefully we will see more powder in the future.

I concur - the run near 3-way peak was very nice. Amazing what a small change in aspect will do.

Good to see you out there today Scotsman.

Likewise Lintermans, thanks for the tip on the soft snow by 3way.
We need to get out touring when conditions improve.

I got an AM-on hill report from a friend who gave a grim report of the conditions. Considering he is usually optimistic about even the worst conditions I decided to rest vs potential injury. Good to hear that you got some good out of the day Scotty, I assume on those new boards!

And Saturday was really reasonable skiing despite the fears of avy's and moisture, sunshine-no rain. There was a wafer thin veneer crust on 8-10 inches of new was really skiable, however if you were first tracks. The leftovers were not so good.
Glad the North Waste chair opened later in the day with a touch of fog, so it weeded out the ones who did not stick it out.
Too bad the powder 8's were canceled it would have made the event more interesting.
