February 5th, White Pass, Super Tuesday!

Headed up to White Pass (first time there) on their 2 for 1 deal from Shell gas stations with a gang of social workers. New snow overnight and more promised during the day turned out true. Couple inches on everything and gradually increasing. Heavy winds kept replenishing runs and scaring off the faint-hearted, leaving endless pow-turns on normally groomed slopes! The nice packed-powder substrate gave a nice fast turn with good holding power... Hit up Mach 5 a couple times, hucking the cornice on top into the fluff, and generally explored a new ski area for me. Great place for overnight dumps midweek (with a 1/2 price ticket, priceless.) One of my best inbounds days of the year! Wish I'd been skiing Alpy or Crystal yesterday...

Almost forgot: the lift closed circa 3:30 due 80mph winds at chair 6 (visible from the lodge...), with 100mph winds reported at the summit of Pigtail peak. Wind transport was obvious, substantial, and constant, with winds seemingly directly from the west. On the lift I would get a snow beard on one half of my (smiling) face... I suspect there will be some heady wind slabs on N and E aspects, so...

Be carefull, especially in the BC!!!! Too many deaths this year.
