Feb 6, 2008, Crystal Ski Area.

Stewie and I skied Crystal today between storms. I am always suprprised by how many people are there on a midweek day but it was never busy.

The skiing was simply superb. The power went out for a few hours and they didn't get Northback open unitl late morning.

I was skiing down Exterminator and about to drop in at Eagles's Nest when three skiers on parachutes sped past me about 20' above my head. I thought the noise was an avalanche.
They flew about 20' about the slope and it was an amazing sight.
Does anybody know who they where?

Jill and I had another wonderful powder day at Crystal. The day began partly cloudy and no wind, then became sunny and no wind and finished with heavy snow showers and no wind. We skied untracked lines until our quads requested a break at 2:30. We finally stopped to take a couple of photos which says it all. Chris, I can reduce to thumbnails if you plan to post any photos.

Jill and I were on our downhill gear and were skiing inbounds all day.  High Campbell closed at the power outage around 11:15 and was still closed when we left. The photo Jill shot of me was on our last run of the day.

I too was present at Crystal with Paul and Richard for a simply spectacular day! Somehow we managed to remain completely oblivious to the power outage until heading in for rehydration and sustenance at 1:15. To top it off, most everybody left leaving stashes of untracked lines to the very end of the day! Wow. Just wow! My face hurts from smiling so much and my quads are only slightly better.

The paragliders were pros who were out scouting the area for the upcoming Red Bull Blade Raid event March 13-15. They will fly at speeds of 40-60mph up to 10' off the ground down a course of 10 gates from upper to lower Exterminator.

Pretty amazing.
