I was going to take the day off from skiing today, the week has been a blur of face shots and frozen smiles. But I had to be a good dad and drive my son up to work (roads too icy for the boy was my excuse). Was concerned that the high winds overnight would continue. Sometimes, you just gotta go.
Even though Rex didn't open until 10, Deer Fly, Lower Bull and Pencil Dick provided ample entertainment and ridiculously deep and light snow for the lower mountain. After Rex opened, GV, memorial, upper E, Eagles nest, Snake Pit, Grubstake, left angle, you name it, it was all fabulous. N-back closed all day, High Campbell opened around 2:15. Campbell Basin, Powder Bowl, Bear Pits, were chest deep in places, needed to use the Steve Barnett high hands technique! I'd sure stay out of Cement Basin and open uncontrolled backcountry for a while, I started a sizable slough in the Frisco Trees.
Sick and ridiculous (Sickdiculous?) day. I'll be back again tomorrow for day seven and fireworks tomorrow night. God I love this place!

Kelvin and I were also up there -- I almost had to give him mouth-to-mouth because he nearly choked.
We arrived in our usual early-morning style: 10am. Kelvin started the day on his super-wide reverse-sidecut homemade skis. Rather appropriate for the conditions if you ask me. We spent most of our time on the Green Valley chair, then road Campbell for half a dozen times when it opened. We managed a good number of runs through untracked sweet pow-pow. We noted a few small slides in areas that were roped off under the Campbell chair. Overall, a fantastic day.
